PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This presentation will highlight the use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) information in decision making for diagnosis, treatment options and recommendations, and assessments of post-treatment outcomes. Cases will be used to demonstrate how CBCT has strongly influenced endodontic practice.

This presentation will differentiate endodontic failure from failure of endodontically treated teeth. It is important to understand what is success and failure of these two entities. This course will examine how failures occur, and how to diagnose and manage them. Knowing the causes of failures, this presentation will discuss ways to avoid endodontic failures and failure of endo treated teeth.

Assessment of treatment outcomes, is critical in determining their success or failure. Clinical examination and radiographic assessment of endodontically treated teeth, including the role of CBCT, will be discussed.

Once an endodontic failure has been diagnosed, various options for treatment will be presented.  Knowing how to avoid endodontic failures, and how to diagnose and manage them, will equip the practitioner in providing their patients with good treatment.

Learning issues:

1. Describe the difference between endodontic failure and failure of endodontically treated teeth.

2. Discuss the common causes of endodontic failure, and how to avoid them.

3. Differentiate the main causes of failure of endodontically treated teeth.
