VicDDS President, 2025-2026
Dear Members and Future Members of the Victoria and District Dental Society,
When I moved to Victoria 4 years ago, I wanted to practice Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology in a location where I would be part of the community. It was important to me that I provide care in the same city in which I lived and that I be available to my patients and their needs. I also wanted to know the dentists and specialists with whom I would be working closely and establishing long-term relationships. One of my mentors, Dr. Mike Melo, encouraged me to join the Victoria and District Dental Society on my first day at Victoria Oral Surgery to help me achieve these goals. Being a member of the society has allowed me to make these valuable connections and gain new knowledge from the continuing educational programs. Today, I am honoured to serve as the president.
Advocacy
One of our top priorities remains advocating for dental professionals and our members. Over the past few years, we’ve made strides in legislative outreach and policy engagement. Our society’s members volunteer their time as representatives at the BC Dental Association, Camosun College, and with other groups at the provincial and national level. Whether it's monitoring proper implementation of patient benefit programs, supporting allied staff education and certification, or promoting access and availability of patient care; your voice matters. I encourage all members to stay informed and get involved in our advocacy efforts. We are stronger when we speak as one.
Continuing Education
Lifelong learning is at the heart of our profession. This year, we have expanded our continuing education offerings, including hands-on workshops, virtual seminars, and live lectures. Our goal is to provide relevant, cutting-edge programs that not only enhance your practice but also support your professional growth. I invite you to explore our upcoming CE calendar and take full advantage of these opportunities.
Social Engagement and Community
Equally important is the sense of community among our members. From our annual Children’s Brunch and Holiday Dinner to local networking mixers and gatherings, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for connection. The society also has a mentorship program that can link early career dentists with more experienced ones. Dentistry is demanding; peer support and camaraderie are essential to maintaining both personal and professional wellbeing.
I encourage you to join the Victoria and District Dental Society and make your voice heard. Please do not hesitate to reach out with your ideas, questions, or concerns. Together, we are building a stronger profession.
Sincerely,
Dr. Nathan Lee
2025-2026 VicDDS President
