Dr. Dan-Linh Ha
VicDDS President, 2024-2025
Dear Members and Future Members of the Victoria and District Dental Society,
It has been 11 years since I began my career as an endodontist in Victoria. At the time, I barely knew anyone in the city and was encouraged by my employer, Dr. Brian Gorman, to join the Victoria and District Dental Society. By attending the many events organized by this society, I was given the opportunity to meet with other dentists and specialists to expand my professional and social network. The society has a mentorship program, which can offer invaluable assistance and resources to new dentists. The social committee does an excellent job at organizing social events, such as the holiday brunch and dinner dance, which members look forward to attending each year.
Several business meetings are held throughout the year, which allow for members to meet and discuss current events in dentistry. This is a great way to stay up to date with the topics related to organized dentistry. In my 11 years of practice in BC, I have witnessed many changes and challenges that impact each and every one of us directly, including the transition from the College of Dental Surgeons of BC to the new BC College of Oral Health Professionals, staff shortages, and now the execution of the Canadian Dental Care Plan. The society is fortunate to have dentists who volunteer their time as representatives of the BC Dental Association and Camosun College, who keep us well informed of issues that impact our everyday practice. The society empowers us with a collaborative voice to advocate for ourselves.
The society offers several in-person and virtual continuing education courses throughout the year. The scientific committee selects both well-known speakers and local speakers to discuss a range of topics in dentistry.
The society depends on membership to provide quality CE and resources to its members. I thank those who have registered early, to ensure we can secure speakers and venues for the upcoming year. I encourage all members to reach out to their colleagues who have not yet registered, to do so. The Victoria and District Dental Society is well known across Canada as one of the most well run and supportive dental societies, which I can personally attest to. The benefits are endless.
I am honored to serve as the president of the VicDDS this coming year. I look forward to seeing you all in the Fall.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan-Linh Ha | 2024-2025 VicDDS President
