Dr. Stephane Picard
VDDS President, 2023-2024
I graduated from the University of Laval in 1999 and since then have been practicing dentistry across the country. From my hometown of Sept-Iles, Quebec, to Whitecourt, Alberta, to Cochrane, Calgary and Canmore, Alberta. When I met my wife, we decided that Victoria would be the perfect place to raise our family. Three beautiful children later, we have called Victoria home since 2018. As a family, we have created meaningful connections while building my professional practices. I got involved with the Victoria and District Dental Society a couple years ago after being a member since my move to Victoria. Through the VicDDS I have been able to interact with a variety of professionals and specialists that have helped both myself and my patients. It has proven to be a useful tool in building a successful practice. It has helped me feel connected in a profession that, sometimes, can feel so isolated.
As a Society, we want to continue building those connections. Our meetings are opportunities to meet colleagues and specialists in our community, face to face. We talk about work, life, and creating that balance in a comfortable atmosphere. When you need to make a referral to a specialist, you can have more confidence doing so after having the chance to meet and mingle. We will continue to offer social events throughout the year and hope to see even more of you in attendance.
You will notice some changes this year and some things will stay the same. Both come as benefits to you. We are keeping our membership affordable for our new graduates. They can become a part of the VicDDS for the first 2 years at just $400 each year. Your ideas will be so important as the world of dentistry changes and evolves. We are making it easier to obtain your required credits. For the price of your membership, you are getting approximately 30 CE points. That’s a value of around $5000. You won’t have to pay for the added travel costs. Courses will be held during the evenings and weekends. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn with, and from, professionals right in our backyard.
We, as a dental society, are here to listen to you. I am here to listen to you. If we all work together, with open communication, we can create a happier, healthier work-life balance together. Please reach out if you want to talk or have an idea that you think would help improve what we do for you. I look forward to the chance to meet and speak with as many of you as I can over the next year.
